Statement

The artist’s response to complex trauma, brought about by heartbreak, abuse, loss and grief. The need for closure or cathartic relief creates a shift from once previously preferred stark black-and-white imagery, and patterns of protective thought in the same vein, and through the transition of an ongoing grieving process. A personal look at feelings of deep hollow desperation and the ensuing attempts to fill the emptiness with something more than scarred ugliness it left behind.

Based in Perth, Western Australia, Amanda Lancaster’s years as a visual artist have shone through in her photography, with her eye for detail and aesthetics of dark empty spaces, creating surreal and thought-provoking images.
