A 35mm film photo of my fathers presence in hospital.

Kate Hulett is a West Australian artist and photographer - as well as a milliner, business owner, and arts worker. Hulett collages, paints, and shoots 35mm film. In 2018, Hulett was shortlisted in the Perth Centre of Photography CLIP Awards, and in 2019, was awarded first prize in the Perth Centre of Photography IRIS Award. 2018 saw her first curatorial role for the group exhibition Cut it Out, at Smart Casual gallery, which was reimagined for it’s second iteration for 2020 as an online exhibition ( In 2019, she exhibited in the Rotterdam Photo Festival, the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney, was a finalist in the City of Stirling photography awards, and was featured in numerous group shows.

Hulett’s work is interested in the surprising amongst the mundane. With a deep curiosity about people, humanity and the frivolity of life (Hulett holds a BPsych), her works often feature irony, wit and humour to soften and connect with the viewer. She has a keen interest in community and generating a sense of pride and connection with space, her work orientates around the bigger picture, and investigates actions that will improve our lived environment.
