Statement
Banarr means turkey, these are the feathers we plucked from a bush turkey left on rocky country.
Mary-Lou Orliyarli Divili identifies as a Nyikina and Ngarinyin woman, both from her mother’s side. She lives at the Kupungarri (Mt Barnett) Community located on the Gibb River Road. Her central reason for creating art is to continue to learn more about her culture and as a means to explore and represent her identity. She is inspired by the older artists and community members who tell stories and sing traditional songs. As well as photography, Mary-Lou enjoys both painting and printmaking and would like to incorporate these artforms into her photographic art practice.
