Statement

Dangerous Play is an investigation into the ways in which the Covid 19 pandemic changed our way of living. During the lockdowns, local government restricted access to playgrounds to stop the spread - how to deter play was left down to what the council workers had on hand. In these images the artist recreates those makeshift barriers as an attempt to subvert their original intention - the artist is now asking us to play. You can read these photos like a parent or a citizen, mournful and bereft, or equally - as a surreal carnival, a mockery of civil enforcement thrown over an uninhabited space.

Danica was born on Ballardong Boodja, and now works and lives on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja as a photographer, videographer and stylist.
