Statement

One Flesh is a series of photographs influenced by somewhat of a rebuttal to Genesis 2:22-24; ‘The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones, And Flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man’.

I believe women are the creator of flesh which has been shown through the concept of Mother Nature. Throughout my body of work there are hints of the female reproductive system. I have used my love for the rich aesthetics of the ordinary, the everyday - capturing simple sensual beauty in the moment. These images evoke sensuality, bringing a feminine aspect to life, life creation and appreciation.

Perth based photographer Erica Watkin graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Photography from Central TAFE in 2014. Her work was originally influenced by street photography, but over the last few years she has come to focus on minimalism and architecture photography. Erica’s work is driven by texture, shape, and repetitive lines, focusing on certain aspects of the landscape and using natural light to her advantage. Using her iPhone, she’s created a whole new version of a landscape that surrounds her.
