Holding a piece of string can provide pure enjoyment. A figure floating in the sky will amuse any passer-by, but to grasp the string that anchors it is the ultimate entertainment. Who is on the other end of the string often remains a mystery, but we can at least assume the person is smiling. It’s hard to capture the colour and gradient of a sky. These airborne artworks offer the perfect reference to appreciate the vastness of blue. The sky has the power to confuse any sensor and film stock.
Perhaps the light travelling from kite to camera is the photographer’s invisible string.
