Born in Whyalla, South Australia and growing up along the coastal areas from Goolwa to Victor Harbour S.A, Stuart McMillan has always been fascinated by his natural and suburban surrounds.
In 1999 he moved to Wadandi Boodja - Margaret River Region, on a surf seeking mission, this also activated a deeper desire to create art, photographs and music. He studied Art locally at Margaret River TAFE (2004) and in Perth at Edith Cowan University from 2005 which he completed Bachelor’s degree of Visual Arts in 2008.
For the past 15 years Stuart has been mostly based in Western Australia between nomadic stints interstate and overseas. Stuart has worked on numerous creative ventures including several solo and collaborative exhibitions, wall murals, festival, activations/installations, artist in residence programs and community arts projects. Working with a broad range of mediums from drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and multimedia installations, he is interested in the human condition, and how the external world (environment/landscape) shapes the internal being (spirit/self).
