Statement
The water is a moody looking glass and I am having an Alice in Wonderland moment. The ripples are non-existent in the shallows of the pool. And time stands motionless there. I want to see beyond the obvious. So, I spend the next hour looking straight down into the depths and stillness of the pool in search of fallen, star-shaped glowing leaves to photograph. Bit by bit I see nature's unhurried process of renewal and transformation in these underwater scenes; a natural collage of elements and form. I see art.
Raquel is a Perth based Photographer whose work explores identity, culture, memories and community.
A deep curiosity, observation and playful imagination fuels a way of documenting and photographing the everyday: people, produce, places and spaces; with meaning. Utilising an overall aesthetic approach and juxtaposing allows Raquel to build a visual language inviting the viewer to look closer and seek out new ways of exploring and connecting to the world around them.
Through deeper conversations and creative exploration, Raquel works as a Commercial Photographer capturing real and raw moments that connect us all.
