Edition of 10

Sunlight, curtains, lamp. explores the spaces, places, and objects that women engage with and inhabit on an everyday level. This photograph is a part of an ongoing series of work which occurs within friends’ homes and depicts the spaces that they spend time in. I look at these investigations as a type of portraiture, where the individual’s figure is not present in the frame, but where their presence is possibly felt. Sunlight, curtain, lamp was shot on 35mm colour C41 process film.

Artist Bio

Seychelle Nattrass McNee is a Fremantle based photographer currently completing a Master of Research (Fine Art) at Curtin University. Her ongoing series of work explores women’s everyday lived experiences through the depiction of the spaces, places, and objects that they engage with and inhabit. Seychelle photographs women who are close friends and relatives to her, and the places she photographs are often the subject’s homes or places that have meaning to them.

Seychelle is developing a practice of “slow-seeing” by using slower, analog methods of photographic process, and printed, material outputs. This practice is developing as a response to a “fast-seeing” visual culture which promotes “quick-media” platforms, such as social media sites, which encourages high levels of image consumption and immaterial, data-based photographic outputs.
