Statement
The peak of a journey out towards Milford Sound, New Zealand, emerging from a dark tunnel to see a land different to the one we previously came from. Taken on 35mm in Summer 2021
Since childhood, a camera has always been in hand everywhere they travel. Photographing subjects of abandoned exteriors, things that feel lost and off, 35mm is used primarily when capturing the glistening reflections of a state of dreaming, a feeling felt at the moments these images are captured.
Samuel Bartlett is publishing these images for the first time in a collection and is still finding his footing in a new world as a young artist, and in future will use his art to connect the reaches of many differing formats into one. Blending painting, graffiti, poetry, video, photography and sound into larger singular pieces.
