Statement

We often fail to see what is behind us while looking forward. In this image, gently undulating dunes provide a backdrop to the viewpoint, leading us to an allocated space but not knowing what lies ahead. Engulfed by an immense sensation of loneliness, we are provided a single signpost for direction, but how to interpret the signal we have not a clue.

American born, Perth based and having travelled vastly in-between, Erin Dowley is experiencing mixed successes adjusting to her life as a non-drifter. Confronting the ephemerality of beauty and emotions, Dowley uses the camera to capture fleeting interactions with the environment. Having graduated from TAFE with an Advanced Diploma of Photography in 2017, Dowley is currently completing a Master of Environmental Science with a specialisation in spatial data at the University of Western Australia, where she continues to use pixels to tell stories about the environment.
